Improvisation of Playing Different Roles with the 1st Grade

While the 1st Grade was finishing up the Unit on the Senses, there were several discussions about locations where our senses could be put to use and active. The answers given by the classes were such places as:

The Beach
The Zoo
A Restaurant
Multiplaza and the stores there
School
At Home
The Park
The Airport
And many more.....

By choosing locations with each group and incorporating the use of costumes, the 1st Graders were asked to improvise (or create a situation in the moment by using their imaginations and the suggestions provided to guide them) what action they would perform if they were actually in this place and how they could use their senses there. With these factors, we began to explore what it would be like to play a role in the scene, where we each had a specific job or "role" to play.

As this was one of the first times the students were asked to invent a scene and add dialogue based on their instincts and their own creativity, things started out very slowly and gradually escalated to having hilarious results! Take a look at the scenarios and some of the dialogue the students came up with  :)

"Here at the Zoo, we like to take care of all of the animals. Please follow me...."

"And over here is where the Lions live...."

"You can pet the animals because they are very friendly...."

Meanwhile, at the Restaurant, there were a lot of hungry customers and the staff did their best to be accomodating.

"Would you like to look at our menu?"

So many orders to take! Being a waitress is hard work!

The chef was ready to go in the kitchen!

"I'll bring the order right out.....I'm on my way!"

"Thank you for waiting....here you are!"

Out in the Country, Farmers did their best to make sure the animals were well-fed and taken care of ....

At the Airport, the Airline Crew as well as the Passengers were ready for their adventure to take flight!

"Damas y Caballeros, por favor abrochen sus cinturones"
(This was what Beatrice and Camilo actually told the passengers as they prepared to take-off on their flight to China, Brazil then Italy.....Brilliant!)

"The crew will be giving you with snacks now"

"Would you like a book to read? Sure, I'll go get you one....."

Getting close to printmaking with third grade

At this point during the Mola project, the third graders are working at different speeds, but most of them will be printing their designs next week and begin to embroider them.

In the pictures below, we have students who are still separating their designs into layers by color, some who are transferring their layers to printing blocks, and those who are carving their printing blocks.

Nicolás demonstrates the safe way to carve a printing block.

Ear and Vocal training

Fifth grade students analyze the basics elements for a good vocal performance and they were doing some warm up exercises and ear training.

The history of musical notation.

The fourth graders have been studying music as a universal language and this week they analyzed and shared their reflections after seeing part of the documentary Howard Goodall's Big Bang moments in musical history, where the author makes a journey through the history of musical notation.

Musical intelligence and outstanding musicians.

The third graders have been studying musical intelligence and outstanding musicians.

After studying the most important characteristics of musical intelligence and some ways in which we can learn music, they did a workshop in which they executed a musical exercise in three different ways, with an auditory, visual and kinesthetic approach.  Later, students shared with their peers with which of the ways they felt more comfortable learning.

Kinde Visual Arts: Primary Colors mix and make Secondary Colors

Kinder is experimenting with color theory. We are learning about light colors and dark ones and how to mix them to get the colors that we want. We also have a great time during our independent art inquiry time building and constructing things together. We are a great kinder team!
