Impressionism and perspective in fifth grade

These past weeks we have been learning about drawing in one point and two point perspective, using vanishing points.  It has been quite the challenge, but so satisfying for those who are starting to get the hang of it because it is like they are creating visuals to record the world around them from their perspective.

Many of the students were quick to appreciate the 1pt perspective in our walkway which leads to Balboa.

We took advantage of the lovely architecture that surrounds our quad on campus.

For our first activity they were asked to also include something from imagination.  I didn't expect them to use rulers for that part!  Benny went all out....

Bailey being very excited about his work!

After some practice, students were asked to make three drawings, one tight one, one loose one, and one impressionist one.  Depending on their fine motor skills and general style, what this means for each individual is certainly different.
