Fourth Grade Photography

The fourth grade photography unit is gaining momentum as students continue to make connections between their understanding of what photography is and what it can be used for.

The photogram activity is a favorite for many, including myself!  To prepare for this activity we talked about composition, which is very important across the arts.  Students analyzed different photographs identifying lines, lighting, balance...  they practiced different types of compositions by arranging and rearranging their objects, and then we went outside with photosensitive paper to make photographic images using sunlight.

This past week we worked on using photography to communicate "the concept of being a child in school".  We went on a walk throughout the school for students to capture images they believed would help to communicate this message.

When we came back to class, we shared our images and briefly reflected on how effective they were.

Friendship through Song & Dance and "Mirroring" our partner!

As a continuation of our understanding of Friendship, Kinder has learned a song ("Make New Friends") accompanied by choreography that incorporates some basic ideas showing what it is to be a good friend -
"Make new friends
But keep the old
One is silver and the other is gold!"

To develop an understanding of the concept of Perspective, we "mirrored" each others' actions by following the movements made by our partners. By doing this we also develop a connection with our partner, which is a very important aspect of performance. We took turns leading the actions, then following our partner!
