1st Grade - An Exploration of the Emotions and the Senses

During these first weeks, the 1st Grade has begun to explore an aspect of Drama that is very important: the emotions. The classes named a range of emotions and explored how these emotions are reflected in our bodies and faces.

As the 1st Grade is also learning about the 5 Senses, we also made connections through music by using our senses of Hearing and Sight by playing a game called "Musical Emotions". In this game, we listen to a collection of classical music selections that can inspire certain emotions based on their tone and rhythm. The classes were encouraged to let the music carry them to the emotion called out using Emotion Flashcards, such as Anger....

Or feeling Scared...

or incredible Happiness....

During the exploration of using the gifts that are our Senses, we focused on the senses of Touch and Sight in a game called "Person to Person". We move around the room freely and when the phrase "Person to Person!" is called out, we freeze then choose the person closest to us to be our partner. We then connect at a part of body, such as the elbows or arms. The challenge of this game is to maintain this physical connection as we move around the room, without breaking it.....almost as if we were super-glued together!!
