Creating original mola designs with third grade

The third graders have been inquiring into the Kuna culture and designing original molas based on their observations from photographs as well as real life examples.

This photo shows students working, notice the checklist for the design!  Click on the image to enlarge.

Students inquire into embroidery after watching an example.  Threading a tiny needle is really hard work for third grade, and it's a great fine motor skill for them to acquire.

Currently we are finalizing our designs so that we can print them on fabric using linocut technique.
